Florida Coordinating Council on Mosquito Control
The Florida Coordinating Council on Mosquito Control (FCCMC) advises the Commissioner of Agriculture regarding mosquito control issues and provides a forum for coordination and communication between state agencies and other stakeholders regarding mosquito control, including development and implementation guidelines to assist Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in resolving disputes arising over the control of arthropods on public owned lands. This council also contains a subcommittee on Managed Marshes to provide technical assistance and guidance on mosquito impoundment management plans and develop and review research proposals for mosquito source reduction techniques.
This council is made up of the following representatives or their authorized designee. The Secretary of the Environmental Protection and the Secretary of Health, the executive director of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the state epidemiologist, the Commissioner of Agriculture and representatives from the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences; Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University; the United State Environmental Protection Agency; the United State Department of Agriculture, Insects Affecting Man Laboratory; the United States Fish and Wildlife Service; and two mosquito control directors to be nominated by the Florida Mosquito Control Association; two representatives of Florida environmental groups and two private citizens whose lands are regularly subject to mosquito control operations.
The Council operates under the authority of Chapter 388.46, Florida Statutes.
